![]() ![]() Pyrenean Shepherd Bloodlines at La Brise ![]() BIS/BISS CH Urrugne de l'Estaube with her breeder, Guy Mansencal in 1986. Mr. Mansencal was president of the French breed club (RACP) from 1983-2000,. Since 1948, he has produced more outstanding Pyrenean Shepherds (both varieties) than any breeder in the world. La Brise has bred or owned the Best in Show winners of every one of the PSCA's 12 National Specialties, and the top Pyr Shep in Canada every year 1994-99, as well as the top-winning Pyr Shep of all time (CH Chaparral Gascon de La Brise). Our dogs have won over 50 titles in conformation, obedience, flyball, herding & agility. At the same time we have been a leader in minimizing health problems in this already hardy breed. We have OFA'd & CERF'd more Pyr Sheps than anyone else, and greatly reduced the incidence of epilepsy in the breed in North America. (For more on this, see under "Genetics" on the links page.) Meet our Pyr Sheps We have, of course, not accomplished all this in isolation. We have been very fortunate over the years to be able to draw on Guy Mansencal's 50 years' experience with the Pyrenean Shepherd breed. We linebreed on foundation stock imported from his Estaube kennel in Tarbes, France, and from other French breeders using the same bloodline. Of particular importance in recent years has been the parallel breeding program of Susan Buttivant of Chaparral Kennels in Canada. We are very proud that Mansencal has seen fit to say that La Brise has remained truer to traditional breed type than the vast majority of breeders in France. With this excellent foundation, we have consistently produced top quality Pyr Sheps with correct type and temperament, and superior athletic ability, with a minimum of genetic defects. It has been our great pleasure to know dogs such as the National Specialty winners Tess, Cotton-Tail, JJ, and Jolie, and the top-winning Pyr Shep of all time, Jacques. But knowing that we actually produced these future winners from our own litters, and watching them grow up; This has been a gift beyond compare.
